8th Grade Chorus is a year-long course that meets every other day for one “skinny” period
(half a block.) There are three sections of 8th Chorus this year,
involving around 200 Northview students. Singers at this level learn to sing
3 and 4 part music, work on solfege syllables and hand signs, develop good singing techniques, and expand their knowledge
of music styles, genres, and time periods through performance of a variety of musical selections. This class is a fun, energizing way to spend time making music with friends during the school day!
One extra opportunity for developing singers involves auditioning for the annual Opus Honors Choirs. Early morning rehearsals start in late August, and the students submit audition tapes in late September. Northview has been fortunate to have many talented singers accepted into this prestigious
group through the years, and all the students who audition are featured at our first concert each fall. The final concert of the year, in May, is a time to spotlight individuals and small groups during the talent
portion of our concert. Students audition in April for this additional performance
opportunity. 8th Grade Chorus is a great way for singers to develop
their musicianship, vocal techniques, and performing abilities. We encourage
all interested students to participate, regardless of their music background or singing ability!
